Your child’s Music Therapy Journey Starts Here:
What to Expect Before Starting Regular Sessions at A Therapeutic Melody
Thinking about starting music therapy for your child? 💛
We know reaching out for the first time can feel like a big step—but don’t worry! At A Therapeutic Melody, we’ve made the process simple, gentle, and centered around you and your child’s needs.
Here’s a cozy little walkthrough of what to expect before your child begins regular music therapy sessions with us:
🎵 Step 1: Reach Out (You’ve Got This!)
You can get started by either:
Filling out the Contact Form on our website
Or sending me a quick email at alice@atherapeuticmelody.com
Once I hear from you, I’ll reach out to schedule a free 20-minute virtual consultation—super casual and zero pressure. Just a friendly chat to get to know each other better and answer any questions you might have.
💻 Step 2: Free Consultation Call
During this quick call, I’ll ask you a few gentle questions to learn more about your child, like:
Name, age, and any diagnosis (if there is one)
Gross and fine motor skills
How they prefer to communicate (talking, gestures, AAC, letter board, etc.)
Any experience with music or music therapy
No need to prepare anything beforehand—just come as you are. And don’t worry, this is not a screening. I truly believe music therapy is for everyone who enjoys music, no musical skills needed. If your kiddo loves music, that’s all that matters. 💕
✨ Step 3: Let’s Talk About Goals
Some parents come in with specific goals in mind—like:
Helping with emotional regulation
Supporting social interaction
Boosting communication skills
But if you’re not sure yet, that’s totally okay too. We’ll figure it out together. I’ll guide the conversation gently, so you don’t have to stress about having the “right” answers.
🎶 Step 4: First “Get to Know You” Session
After the consultation, we’ll schedule your child’s first session. This is a relaxed and fun intro session where we:
Build connection
Explore how your child responds to music
Make sure the vibe feels right—for both your child and me!
📅 Step 5: Moving Into Weekly Sessions
If things feel good after that first session, we’ll move into regular sessions! Here’s what we usually recommend:
Once a week
30 minutes per session (great for little ones!)
We also offer 45- or 60-minute sessions depending on your child’s needs and attention span (and therapist availability). Some kids even thrive with twice-a-week sessions, and we’ll chat about that if it seems like a good fit.
